Community Action: Another Open Fund Worth Adding to Your List

Yesterday’s theme was rolling funds without deadlines. Community Action, also run by the National Lottery Community Fund, is a second one worth knowing about, and it’s aimed squarely at the kind of connection-building work recovery communities already do.

Who it’s for. Communities in Scotland defined however makes sense, by shared background, shared place, or shared experience. The fund is looking for projects that are open, inclusive and led by the community they serve, which fits how most recovery communities already operate.

What it funds. Grants of £20,001 to £250,000, for projects lasting up to five years. Applicants need to show their project will meet at least two of four outcomes: building positive relationships, supporting people’s health or wellbeing, improving people’s access and connection to nature, or making a positive difference to the environment.

One thing worth knowing before you apply. Organisations without at least two years of prior long-term funding experience will typically be capped at £100,000 in total, so it’s worth factoring that into how big an ask makes sense for a first application.

Timeline. Decisions are given within 12 weeks of applying, and the fund is open now.
