Funding for the Trauma-Informed Work Recovery Communities Already Do

Recovery communities across Scotland work with poverty and trauma every day. That’s not always the language used to describe it, but it’s what the work is. The Robertson Trust’s Small Grants programme is built specifically for organisations doing that work.

Who it’s for. Registered charities in Scotland with an annual income between £30,000 and £200,000, whose work addresses poverty and trauma, or both. It sits between the Trust’s smaller Wee Grants (for charities under £30,000 income) and its larger grant programmes, aimed squarely at established but still small-to-mid-sized organisations.

What it funds. Revenue funding of £5,000 to £20,000 a year, normally for three years, though five years may be considered in exceptional circumstances. Funding can be unrestricted or restricted, and can include the cost of equipment needed to support the work.

What you’ll need in place. At least three unconnected trustees on the board, recent independently examined or audited accounts (newly registered charities are treated differently here), and a safeguarding policy if the work involves young people or anyone vulnerable. If part of the ask covers a salary, a full job description is needed too.

If your recovery community’s income sits in that £30,000 to £200,000 band and the work speaks to poverty or trauma, which most recovery work does, this is worth a proper look.
