Recovery isn’t taught from the outside looking in. That’s the idea the Scottish Recovery College was built on, and it’s the reason we’re excited to share that the pilot is now complete.
What the pilot set out to do
The Scottish Recovery College is an eight-day learning programme delivered over several weeks, created by Recoverists, for Recoverists.
Combining personal development, rights-based learning, and community building, the course was designed for people already active within recovery communities, Lived Experience Recovery Organisations (LEROs), and recovery groups across Scotland, as well as those who want to deepen their understanding of recovery and strengthen their contribution to the wider movement.
To create a safe and supportive learning environment, each cohort is limited to around 15 to 20 participants, allowing relationships, trust, and peer support to develop throughout the programme. The course, materials, lunch, and refreshments are provided free of charge, with delivery funded by the Scottish Recovery Consortium (SRC) and hosted within local communities.
What We Learned
The pilot provided something that planning alone never could: honest feedback from the people who experienced the programme first-hand.
Participants shared what worked well, what could be strengthened, and how the Recovery College could better meet the needs of people in recovery. Their insights have been invaluable in refining the content, improving the learning experience, and ensuring the programme remains rooted in lived and living experience.
The result is a stronger, more responsive Recovery College, ready for the next stage of delivery.
What happens next
We’re launching a free information session to share all of this properly.
📅 Wednesday 30 September, 10:30am, online, 45 minutes.
On the call, we’ll present on the pilot, talk through how it was developed, and showcase the new resources that are coming out of it. It’s the right place to ask questions if you’re weighing up whether the Recovery College is right for your community, your LERO, or you personally.
